Stops that are not in the NaPTAN data set
There are two types of stop that are not held in NaPTAN for buses and coaches.
International stops used by passengers
NaPTAN has stops for England, Scotland, and Wales only. No other Geographies are held in the NaPTAN data set.
Stops outside of NaPTANs geography
Coaches can be international and the schedules need to have stops that are outside of the geographical boundaries of NaPTAN.
These stops must use the NeTeX or NI-NaPTAN numbers of the locations they serve. This will allow passengers to clearly plan their journeys.
These are needed so that:
Schedule adherence and AVL can align when the service has stops outside of Great Britain. NeTeX and NI-NaPTAN stops must be used.
Non-passenger stops - are not appropriate for these stops.
Non-Passenger stops
There are two types of stops that are needed to schedule services that will not serve passengers - These are recorded in the 999 ATCOCode.
Bus Depots
Bus Depots are where drivers collect their buses. There is a "dead time" on published schedules which needs to account for the time for the bus to go to and from the depot to the first stop of the passenger schedule.
These are needed so that:
Schedule adherence and AVL can align at the start and end of a scheduled route
Driver Rests
Coaches are based on Drivers hours and not scheduled hours. Driving long distance requires breaks. These are scheduled at motorway rest stations and similar. Passengers cannot Alight or Disembark at these stops - they will continue their journey.
These are needed so that:
Schedule adherence and AVL can align with breaks
