Introduction to accessibility data in NaPTAN (A+NaPTAN)

Published: 08/13/2024

Accessibility data in NaPTAN - Private Beta

We want to introduce information about the accessibility of transport stops to the NaPTAN database. This will help people with various access needs plan their journeys more easily, confidently, and independently. Right now, the information available is either unavailable, scattered, or does not address different accessibility needs well enough. Our goal is to make journey planning easier and more inclusive for everyone, regardless of their accessibility needs.

The new accessibility data is called A+NaPTAN.

The current focus is on bus stop data first because:

  1. Bus stops currently make up 97% of the NaPTAN data
  2. Bus journeys generally cover the first and last mile of a journey
  3. There are many areas across the country where a bus is the only mode of public transport available

Legislation for accessibility information is not in scope for us at the moment.
